Machinery tickets or Plant Competency which are what they are now known, are designed for people that are new entrants to the Civil Construction industry and those who have previously operated earth moving equipment. A very large percentage of Companies now require their employee’s to acquire the new RII competencies that are now of a Nation Standard. Machinery tickets relate to the old OHS licencing, how ever since 2012 the Nationally Recognized RII training packages have been in place.

But what do these RII Competencies mean, what do they qualify you for? They are nationally recognized Qualifications developed for the Resources and Infrastructure Industry. To be deemed competent applicants must be experienced in their chosen machine.
In the past OH&S qualification applicants were assessed against a standard performance criteria that ensured they could operate the machine safely and that they had the knowledge & skill to conduct a pre-start and shut down check however weren’t assessed on skill level. This is where the difference lies. The RII Performance criteria ensures they are skilled on their chosen piece of plant.
RII Qualifications were established as a nationally recognized qualification for both the civil construction and the booming mining industry.
RII30820 – Certificate III Civil Construction Plant Operations –
This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working with civil construction plant, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.
